Seeking Teen Trustees: Apply Now!

The Camden Public Library (CPL) Board of Trustees seeks two motivated high school students residing in the 5 Towns to serve as non-voting Teen Trustees. This role provides a unique opportunity for this student to gain leadership experience, understand a semi-municipal library, and represent the interests of the local teen community in library decision-making. Core Responsibilities:

  • Youth Advocacy: Represent the voices of 5 Towns students (public and private) to ensure library services remain relevant to teens.
  • Board Participation: Attend monthly Board of Trustees meetings to discuss library operations, budget priorities, and community impact.
  • Strategic Liaison: Communicate upcoming library initiatives and digital resource updates to peers and local student organizations.
  • Project Support: Assist with youth-focused programming and events, such as the library’s book sales or digital literacy/AI workshops.

Term:

  • 2 academic years

Meeting Frequency:

  • Monthly, held on the third Thursday of the month at 4:00 PM.
  • Seasonal Recess: Meetings are not held during the months of March, July, and December.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Level: Preferably a rising sophomore or junior in a Five Towns school (public/private) or homeschooling program so that a two-year term can be achieved.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills and a passion for community service. An interest in library science, English literature, public policy, or education is a plus.
  • Reliability: Ability to attend most of the scheduled Thursday afternoon meetings.
  • Preparedness: Review meeting agendas and board minutes— sent via email prior to each session.
