Camden Rotary Presents: Music by the Sea! | Saturday, July 4
Bring your family and friends to celebrate the USA’s 250th BIRTHDAY with FREE LIVE MUSIC in downtown Camden and the Amphitheatre! We’ll have music for every age and taste – from jazz, ragtime, and Dixieland to July 4th favorites and rhythm & blues. Dancing welcome! So, pack your picnic, blankets, and lawn chairs for a relaxing afternoon and evening.

Contribute to the July 4th Time Capsule, a special keepsake of our community’s stories that will inspire generations to come! The time capsule will be buried safely on the grounds of Camden Public Library and will be opened in 50 years on July 4, 2076 for the 300th Anniversary of American Independence. Copy That! Handwriting the Constitutional Amendments | Monday, July 6 – Monday, July 13 during open hours
We’re hosting a week-long drop-in experience in which the public is invited to copy parts of the Constitutional amendments by hand and reflect. The amendments, writing materials, an educational video, and community prompt boards will be set up in the library rotunda. Take your handwritten copies home, or you can choose to attach them to the community amendment wall. Know Your Rights!

The public is invited to join Camden Public Library and Maine Historical Society for a celebratory kick-off of the Declaration of Independence exhibit, featuring music by talented Bay Chamber students, and a group read-aloud of the Declaration.

The Declaration of Independence at Camden Public Library! | August 7-8
This summer, get up close and personal with one of our nation’s most important historical documents — right here at Camden Public Library! From August 7-8, Maine Historical Society’s rare Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration of Independence, which was printed in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776, and sent to the Colonies to announce American independence, will be on view in our beautiful and historic Reading Room! Don’t miss this once-in-a-generation exhibit during America’s 250th!

Ampersand250: Music of the New Nation | Friday, August 7, 7:00 PM in the Oval Room at the Knox Museum
Camden Public Library is partnering with the Knox Museum to put on a concert of Revolutionary music from group Ampersand. Included are songs about the stirrings of revolution; the experiences of colonists in different walks of life; songs from soldiers on both sides of the conflict; a fiddle tune written by an enslaved person, and protest songs written at the time. This trio of musicians brings guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, hammered dulcimer, cello, and penny whistles to underscore rich vocal harmonies and great joy in sharing this traditional music with modern audiences.
