Trees are more than part of our landscape—they are living links to our community’s history, culture, and natural heritage. Sponsored by the Camden Conservation Commission, TreeCorps, and the Camden Public Library, the Camden Heritage Tree Program is now accepting nominations for trees that deserve recognition and protection.
A Heritage Tree is recognized for its historical, cultural, botanical, or ecological significance. Trees may qualify because they play an important role in community life, are exceptionally large or old, are associated with local history, or are rare or ecologically significant. Designating Heritage Trees helps preserve these valuable resources and ensures they receive appropriate care for future generations.
Once a nomination is submitted, it undergoes a review process that includes:
• Review of the application and supporting information by the Camden Heritage Tree Committee.
• Site inspection by the Tree Warden to assess the tree’s health and significance.
• Property owner consent, if the tree is located on private land.
• Official designation and notification if approved, including inclusion in the Heritage Tree Registry and installation of a commemorative sign.
The public is encouraged to identify notable trees in neighborhoods, parks, and historic areas in Camden and submit nominations for consideration.

Paper nominations can be mailed to ATTN: Julia Sagaser, Camden Public Library, 55 Main Street, Camden, ME or dropped off at the library and requested to be put in Julia’s mailbox.
