Tern the Page Book Club: “Birds Up Close” Virtual Q & A with Author Lorna Gibson

Friday, November 20 @ 4:30 am 5:30 pm

Tern the Page is a book club for nature enthusiasts and bird nerds who are excited to learn and build community throughout the year, presented in partnership between Hog Island Audubon Camp and Camden Public Library.

Each season, we will feature one book that connects to our themes. There will be two meetings for each title: an in person discussion at Camden Public Library (tea and coffee provided!) and a virtual ‘Meet the Author’ Q&A session over Zoom.

Our book for fall is Birds Up Close: An Engineer Explores Their Hidden Wonders by Lorna Gibson. Gibson, a renowned engineer and lifelong birder reveals the marvel of how birds work—from the tips of their beaks to the sheen of their tailfeathers.

In-person book discussion: Friday, October 30 at 4:30 PM at Camden Public Library
Virtual Meet the Author session: Friday, November 20, 4:30 PM on Zoom

Lorna Gibson is the Matoula S. Salapatas Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT and a MacVicar Faculty Fellow, MIT’s top award for undergraduate teaching.

She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Audubon Society.

Lorna Gibson has always loved nature and getting outside to walk, bicycle and bird.
