“Working Waterfront: A Fish Tale” with Bill Gerencer & FRESH, DELICIOUS SEAFOOD!

Join us at the Camden Public Library on Tuesday, April 14, at 6:30 PM for an insider’s view of the world of seafood from deck to dining table with 44-year veteran of the New England working waterfront, Bill Gerencer. There will be fresh, delicious seafood dishes to enjoy during the program (think crab mac n’ cheese, fresh oysters, and more. Come hungry!).

Working Waterfront: A Fish Tale offers readers an insider’s perspective on the coast, community, and people of the Gulf of Maine and Georges Bank. The book is a fast-paced narrative, told with wit, humor, honesty, and a nod to the spiritual journey inherent in life by the sea. In addition to captivating stories, the book features a collection of recipes that reflect the region’s rich culinary traditions.

Bill Gerencer, author of Working Waterfront: A Fish Tale, has been an integral part of the New England Waterfront and Seafood Community since 1980. His experience spans multiple roles, including working as a lobsterman, commercial fisherman, fishmonger, trainer, and oyster farmer. Through these varied positions, Bill has developed a deep understanding of the industry and its people.

Beyond his hands-on experience, Bill has also played an influential role in shaping fisheries policy. He has served as a Ground Fish Advisor and as a Highly Migratory Species Advisor to NOAA Fisheries, and has dedicated ten years to the Portland Fish Exchange Board of Directors.

Bill is currently retired and in addition to writing he works part-time at an oyster farm and as a seafood consultant.
