DESCRIPTION:The Camden Public Library is pleased to welcome Sound Artist Dianne Ballon for her presentation The Art of Sound: Recordings from the Coast of Maine on Tuesday\, April 11 at 6:00 PM. \n\n\n\nThis program will take place on Zoom. Click here to register and receive the link to attend: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_d_k5bAMmS2eYennLZeOK9g \n\n\n\nTo experience the high fidelity of sound that will be presented\, headphones or good quality speakers are highly recommended. \n\n\n\n\nSound artist Dianne Ballon has been working in sound for over thirty-five years. She was awarded a Maine Artist Fellowship from the Maine Arts Commission. In lieu of returning to the Arctic where she has recorded sound\, the award and the limitations from the pandemic gave her the opportunity to focus on her coastal sound series at home on the coast of Maine. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nThrough the sound work she has recorded and mixed over the past fellowship year\, Dianne will introduce listeners to the beauty and the richness of sound. She will share the stories behind the sounds\, including the difficulties of field recording\, recording the navigational buoys from the water\, and the discovery of a “lost” sound. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOf her coastal sound series\, Ballon writes\, “The series includes my Boats Creaking at a Dock in Iceland\, recorded in a tiny harbor in the northwestern fjords of Iceland. Each harbor has its own distinct sound. Rocked by the motion of water\, the pull of the tide\, and a variable touch of wind\, the boats create a mesmerizing series of sounds. The sounds are introspective: both sharp and smooth\, quiet and busy\, rhythmic yet random and to me\, achingly beautiful.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDianne Ballon is a sound artist from Portland\, Maine. Her sound works have aired on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. She was awarded a Maine Artist Fellowship from the Maine Arts Commission. Her coastal sound work was featured in Yankee magazine. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDuring her Artist-in-Residency at Shenandoah National Park\, she created a sound portrait for the park. At the Goethe Institute\, she presented her sound installation Musical Instrument Dreams. She produced audio for the award winning national exhibition The Marines and Tet: The Battle That Changed the Vietnam War. For an international radio art competition\, she was awarded for her field recording of boats creaking at a dock in Iceland. She produces audio for Tactile Images\, a company that creates fine art for museums that is accessible to the blind through touch and sound. \n\n\n\nFor over ten years\, she was a member of the teaching and production staff at the National Audio Theatre Festivals. At the University of Maine at Augusta\, she taught audio production and radio theatre. She taught many classes to artists\, producers and podcasters. This includes: the Public Radio Exchange Podcast Garage\, Harvard Sound Education conference\, and at several Audubon societies for her field recordings on birds. DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, April 4\, at 6:30 p.m. the Camden Public Library welcomes poet\, musician\, and activist Jason Grundstrom-Whitney to the library’s Picker Room and on Zoom for an evening of poetry. Grundstrom-Whitney will be reading and discussing poetry from his collection Bear\, Coyote\, Raven\, as well as his upcoming works Blues of the Lost Places and his roughly titled Katahdin Series. \n\n\n\nThis is a hybrid event and will take place in-person in the Picker Room and on Zoom. He has recently retired from close to 40 years in substance abuse counseling and social work\, and is an activist\, musician\, writer\, and poet. His first collection Bear\, Coyote\, Raven achieved critical acclaim with positive reviews from the Boston Globe and others. His next collection Blues of the Lost Places will be published by Resolute Bear later this year. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nAbout Bear Coyote Raven \n\n\n\nA bear can be a person\, though most prefer to be bears. Did a coyote ever lead you to a story?  Have you ever lost yourself in the blue-black eye of a raven?  Imagine three such creatures transitioning from people to animals and back\, walking along a desert highway dressed in their finest three-piece suits: ribbon shirts\, jeans\, and moccasins\, foraging a city alley for supper\, or sharing stories under a starlit sky. If you listen closely\, you could learn something from these three magical creatures. In his first book of poems\, Jason Grundstrom-Whitney introduces us to numerous variations of this American trio. Sometimes Bear gets his paw stuck in a back-street dumpster. Coyote shows people how to trick themselves. Raven travels to the far north to bring back another story. \n\n\n\nThe poems in Bear\, Coyote\, and Raven welcome the reader into their shape shifting world\, where themes of environmental degradation\, violence\, and technological troubles explore what we have lost and suggest solutions: to connect with the web of being and those blessed in their own right. The poet asks us to engage\, to take the time to invest our energy\, and to explore this different way of being. \n\n\n\n(Description source)

SUMMARY:Working the Sea: Selections from the National Fisherman Collection\, Penobscot Marine Museum
DESCRIPTION:During the month of April*\, an exhibit from the National Fisherman Collection at the Penobscot Marine Museum will be on view in the Picker Room Gallery at the Camden Public Library. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCrewmen aboard seiner working with seine. “Scottish seining on 55′ MARY ANN BRADFORD” [ref. NF 07/1980\, p. 32]\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nNational Fisherman was introduced in 1954 as a monthly publication focused\, then and now\, on commercial fishermen: the industry that surrounds them\, the boats they use\, and the gear they rely on. Fishermen weren’t the only audience\, however\, and for many years\, it was known as “the saltiest magazine on the newsstand”— a good part of its readership owned pleasure boats\, wanted to build\, or were just interested in maritime history. National Fisherman covered it all: fishing\, building and repairing small boats\, trending maritime equipment and supplies\, the ordinary drama of life and work at sea\, present and past. An upcoming photo book by long-time NF contributor\, Michael Crowley\, will explore stories from the archives of the magazine. This exhibit draws directly from his book and research\, and of course from the National Fisherman Collection at Penobscot Marine Museum. \n\n\n\nPMM warmly thanks Diversified Communications\, the parent company of the magazine who donated the NF photographs here in 2012\, for their generous financial support of the exhibit. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn Thursday\, April 27th at 6:30 pm\, Michael Crowley\, author of the forthcoming book Working the Sea\, will give an illustrated talk on his experience writing and editing for National Fisherman magazine.  As Boats & Gear editor at NF\, he provided stories on boatbuilding\, boat repair\, and fishing gear. The geographic coverage of his work included New England\, the South Atlantic\, Gulf\, West Coast and Alaska. He wrote many pieces himself\, and assigned and edited the rest. Michael’s talk coincides with the current exhibit on display at CPL which features captioned photographs selected from the book\, and provides access to the complete short essays which accompany them. He resides in Belfast and still contributes regularly to National Fisherman. \n\n\n\n*The Picker Room hosts meetings and library events and is not always open for viewing. The PWH mission also lessens the impact on our environment and helps to lower health care costs by reducing disposal fees. \n\n\n\nInitially a Registered Nurse\, Elizabeth has a wealth of experience in nursing administration in the US and abroad. As a healthcare leader\, Elizabeth has demonstrated exceptional collaborative leadership focusing on proactive change and innovative ideas that create a synergy among many. \n\n\n\nThroughout her career\, Elizabeth has demonstrated a commitment to the importance of giving back: “We can all make a difference in our world\, and all we have to do is try.” Elizabeth holds graduate degrees from Boston University School of Medicine and Public Health\, St Joseph’s College\, and the University of Maine. She also holds undergraduate degrees from American University Washington DC and Northeastern University.  In addition\, she was recently featured on CNN’s Great Big Story and in the Sustainability Issue of Oprah Magazine.  Her efforts to focus on the medical supply chain and how best to direct it to help those less fortunate have resulted in numerous awards and speaking engagements for businesses and healthcare organizations.

SUMMARY:Riding the TransAmerica Trail with Rich Boulet: In-person only
DESCRIPTION:The Camden Public Library is delighted to host Riding the TransAmerica Trail\, a presentation with Rich Boulet on Tuesday\, March 21 at 6:30 PM in the Picker Room.  \n\n\n\nRich\, the Library Director at Blue Hill Public Library in Blue Hill\, Maine recently took a “bucket list” 12\,000 mile motorcycle trip across the USA and back\, primarily on dirt roads. The primary route was the TransAmerica Trail\, a transcontinental recreational route that is suitable for dual-sport motorcycles and 4X4 vehicles. During his presentation\, Rich will share photos and stories about his six-week ride across the country\, camping from his modified Suzuki DR650 motorcycle. \n\n\n\nThis event will be held in-person in the Picker Room at the Camden Public Library and is free and open to the public. \n\n\n\nRich Boulet and his modified Suzuki DR650 motorcycle.

Her Slow Birding work has been featured on numerous podcasts including the American Birding Podcast\, Ray Brown’s Talkin’ Birds Podcast\, and the South Africa podcast The Birding Life. This event is free and open to the public and will take place in-person in the Picker Room as well as online. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRegister to attend virtually on Zoom here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_k0qIpR6ZQM-9euFbVI1Kzg \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nForaging for Wild Edible Mushrooms: Embracing the Bewildering Boletes \n\n\n\nA pair of shaggy Russell’s Boletes\n\n\n\nThe fleshy pored mushrooms we collectively call “Boletes” include several hundred different mushrooms in more than 40 genera in New England.  And recent updates in genetic taxonomy seems to be adding to the confusion rather than simplifying this challenging group for the forager.  \n\n\n\nAnd there are a number of easily-identified Boletes that are common in our forests and present a great opportunity for the forager ready to embrace the Boletes as food.   This 90 minute talk will review the major genera of Boletes and focus on a number of great edibles as well as a handful of mushrooms consistently involved in mild to moderate cases of poisoning.  Suggestions for resources will be offered. \n\n\n\nGreg Marley has been collecting\, studying\, eating\, growing and teaching mushrooms for over 45 years.  He spreads his knowledge of mushrooms through walks\, talks and classes held across the New England and beyond.  Marley is the author the award-winning book Chanterelle Dreams\, Amanita Nightmares; The Love Lore and Mystic of Mushrooms\, (Chelsea Green\, 2010).  As a volunteer mushroom identification consultant to Poison Centers across New England\, he provides expertise in mushroom poisoning cases.  He is a frequent lecturer to college groups and a mushrooming foray faculty member.  When not mushrooming\, Marley works as a mental health clinician specializing in suicide prevention and traumatic grief.  \n\n\n\nA Big Bowl of King Boletes ready for roasting!

His work focuses on the population ecology of endangered wood turtle populations and the impacts of introduced pathogens on amphibians. He works with both undergraduate and graduate students as well as a variety of collaborators from state agencies to integrate field-based science and a coordinated conservation and restoration framework to address basic and applied problems in conservation biology. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. DESCRIPTION:During the month of March*\, an exhibit from local photographer Bonnie Farmer will be on view in the Picker Room Gallery at the Camden Public Library.  \n\n\n\nFrom 1985-1990\, Bonnie Farmer had exclusive permission to photograph employees\, machinery\, and products at The Knox Woolen Mill and The Tannery\, both located in Camden. By photographing these workers\, whose families had also worked there generations before\, Farmer documented and honored the end of an era. \n\n\n\nMBNA\, which occupied the former Mill building\, exhibited these photographs in its museum until the building was sold. The Dowling Walsh Center for Arts also exhibited Farmer’s collection until that was also closed. The Camden Public Library is honored to have these photographs in its own collections and continue to share the stories of Camden’s industrial past. \n\n\n\nBonnie Farmer currently resides in Rockland and is now painting and working with watercolors. She is also known for her assemblage sculptures. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n*The Picker Room hosts meetings and library events and is not always open for viewing. He retired from the full-time job in 2011\, but continues the gardening column as a freelancer. \n\n\n\n\nHe was born in Skowhegan\, grew up mostly in Farmington and attended the University of Maine where he received a degree in journalism. After graduation he was drafted into the Army\, where he served two years\, mostly as a reporter/editor for military publications.

Read about it below: \n\n\n\nOn View Now at Page GalleryCollaborative Mural Project After Dahlov Ipcar’s Bright Barnyard \n\n\n\n While their friends cozied up to woodstoves with cocoa and businesses throughout town closed due to record-breaking cold temperatures\, nine intrepid young artists gathered in the warmth of a collaborative studio space in Page Gallery at 23 Bay View Street in Camden. Each February the gallery gives its walls over to the children of the community for its Youth Art Exhibition. This year’s prompt is to create a piece of art depicting the animals you love best. \n\n\n\nProminently displayed on a wall of its own\, the mural is a featured work in the show. After shedding coats\, hats and mittens and claiming a spot around one of two long work tables filled with panels\, palettes\, brushes\, paints and a variety of collage materials\, the gallery’s owner\, Colin Page\, provided an overview on the artist and work selected this year. The children would recreate a piece from one of Maine’s best known and most loved artists\, Dahlov Ipcar (1917-2017). Born into a family of artists\, Dahlov’s home was filled with creativity and her imagination encouraged. Her love of animals inspired the decorative patterns and geometric designs that would become her artistic signature. Colin explained that each child would work on a section of Dahlov’s painting from her book Bright Barnyard\, a colorful scene of chickens\, roosters\, guinea hens\, chicks and geese first published in 1966. Once complete\, their individual efforts would be hung together to reveal the full painting. “Copying artists is a great way to learn\, gather ideas and inspiration\, practice skills and create something new\,” said Colin. \n\n\n\nUndaunted by the blank panels before them\, the artists set to work\, squeezing paint onto palettes\, mixing colors and selecting brushes. Gallery staff took on the role of studio assistants\, helping to clean brushes\, refresh water glasses and track down beans\, yarn and pasta for mixed media needs. Gallery manager\, Kirsten Surbey\, read Ipcar’s Bright Barnyard aloud while the children painted. The atmosphere was relaxed\, cooperative and fun. The children\, ranging in age from 8 to 13 years old\, enjoyed working alongside their peers and took breaks to look at each other’s paintings and get ideas. \n\n\n\nText accompanying the exhibit\, encourages visitors to explore The Farnsworth Art Museum in neighboring Rockland to see Dahlov’s 1965 Jungle Pool painting in person. “Dahlov is a national treasure\, and she believed that children should be free to express themselves artistically with any materials they might find\, and in ways that might be different. She used her powers of observation and pleasure in art-making to draw us into the possibilities of our imagination. The Farnsworth invites children and their adults to explore Dahlov’s Jungle Pool and the creations of many artists living and working in Maine today during our 75th Anniversary Year\,” said Jane Bianco\, Farnsworth curator.   \n\n\n\nThe Youth Art Exhibition will be on display through February 28th. Gallery visitors are invited to participate in activities stationed throughout the exhibition including\, community painting\, weaving\, puppet making and paper cutting activities. Call 236-3440 to sign up. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn View Now at Page GalleryCollaborative Mural Project After Dahlov Ipcar’s Bright Barnyard \n\n\n\nWhile their friends cozied up to woodstoves with cocoa and businesses throughout town closed due to record-breaking cold temperatures\, nine intrepid young artists gathered in the warmth of a collaborative studio space in Page Gallery at 23 Bay View Street in Camden. Each February the gallery gives its walls over to the children of the community for its Youth Art Exhibition. This year’s prompt is to create a piece of art depicting the animals you love best. \n\n\n\nProminently displayed on a wall of its own\, the mural is a featured work in the show. After shedding coats\, hats and mittens and claiming a spot around one of two long work tables filled with panels\, palettes\, brushes\, paints and a variety of collage materials\, the gallery’s owner\, Colin Page\, provided an overview on the artist and work selected this year. The children would recreate a piece from one of Maine’s best known and most loved artists\, Dahlov Ipcar (1917-2017). Born into a family of artists\, Dahlov’s home was filled with creativity and her imagination encouraged. Her love of animals inspired the decorative patterns and geometric designs that would become her artistic signature. Colin explained that each child would work on a section of Dahlov’s painting from her book Bright Barnyard\, a colorful scene of chickens\, roosters\, guinea hens\, chicks and geese first published in 1966. Once complete\, their individual efforts would be hung together to reveal the full painting. “Copying artists is a great way to learn\, gather ideas and inspiration\, practice skills and create something new\,” said Colin. \n\n\n\nUndaunted by the blank panels before them\, the artists set to work\, squeezing paint onto palettes\, mixing colors and selecting brushes. Gallery staff took on the role of studio assistants\, helping to clean brushes\, refresh water glasses and track down beans\, yarn and pasta for mixed media needs. Gallery manager\, Kirsten Surbey\, read Ipcar’s Bright Barnyard aloud while the children painted. The atmosphere was relaxed\, cooperative and fun. The children\, ranging in age from 8 to 13 years old\, enjoyed working alongside their peers and took breaks to look at each other’s paintings and get ideas. \n\n\n\nText accompanying the exhibit\, encourages visitors to explore The Farnsworth Art Museum in neighboring Rockland to see Dahlov’s 1965 Jungle Pool painting in person. “Dahlov is a national treasure\, and she believed that children should be free to express themselves artistically with any materials they might find\, and in ways that might be different. She used her powers of observation and pleasure in art-making to draw us into the possibilities of our imagination. The Farnsworth invites children and their adults to explore Dahlov’s Jungle Pool and the creations of many artists living and working in Maine today during our 75th Anniversary Year\,” said Jane Bianco\, Farnsworth curator.   \n\n\n\nThe Youth Art Exhibition will be on display through February 28th. Gallery visitors are invited to participate in activities stationed throughout the exhibition including\, community painting\, weaving\, puppet making and paper cutting activities. Everything eats them directly or indirectly\, which may or may not be a good thing as far as plants are concerned. Because they do not move around\, it is easy to forget that plants are not helpless. They have evolved an incredible arsenal of chemicals\, camouflage\, spines\, hairs\, and waxes to discourage herbivores. On the other hand\, they spend a huge amount of their energy on pollen\, nectar\, edible fruits\, and sugary root exudates designed to attract and nourish animals\, insects\, fungi and bacteria so they can perform services such as pollination\, seed dispersal\, defense\, and nutrient acquisition.  \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIt is a carefully balanced natural economy and community based on the products of photosynthesis that is amazing in its complexity and efficiency. Strengthening this natural economy through sound horticultural and agricultural practices is in essence what the organic movement is all about. In this talk\, Bill Cullina will show how this world of pollen\, poisons\, pigments\, pheromones\, sugars and sex translates to sound organic practices from which we can all benefit. \n\n\n\n\nWilliam Cullina (kul-EYE-nuh) is the F. Otto Haas Executive Director of the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to this he was the President and CEO of Coastal Maine Botanic Garden for eleven years. Cullina holds degrees in plant science and psychology\, has been working in public horticulture for 25 years\, and has extensive experience in in horticultural and forestry research\, and commercial nursery production.  \n\n\n\nA well-known author and recognized authority on North American native plants\, Cullina lectures on a variety of subjects to garden and professional groups and writes for popular and technical journals. His books include\, Wildflowers\, Native Trees\, Shrubs\, and Vines\, Understanding Orchids\, Native Ferns\, Mosses\, and Grasses\, and Understanding Perennials.

The good news is\, we can often do something about it! Learn basic disability etiquette for birders\, broaden your idea of what birding is\, and learn practical\, replicable strategies to make birding locations more accessible and bird-related programming more inclusive for disabled birders. \n\n\n\nPresenter Freya McGregor (she/her)\, OTR/L\, CIG is a disabled birder and an occupational therapist. Freya co-founded the nonprofit Birdability\, and now provides consulting and training through her business Access Birding to empower birders and nature organizations to be confident agents of change in improving access and inclusion for disabled birders. Her clinical background is in blindness and low vision services\, and her ‘dodgy’ knee creates an access challenge for her. Freya has written about access\, inclusion\, disability and birding for Audubon magazine\, Birding magazine\, and the LA Times\, and is currently writing A Field Guide to Accessible Birding in North America\, to be published by Princeton University Press.

He is also the former chair of the Arborist Board and worked as horticulturist for ChemLawn Services Corporation for 5 years\, 1983 – 1988. He is also a landscape and nature photographer. He grew up in Farmington\, Maine and says he was an entomologist from birth and was inspired to love plants by his mother who grew beautiful roses and rock gardens.

While living with the Inuit community there\, she gave birth to a baby girl\, who was nicknamed the Snowbaby. This exhibit from the Maine Ski & Snowboard Museum tells their story through photos and quotes from Josephine Peary’s three books about her adventures in the Far North.

SUMMARY:Author Talk with Screenwriter-Turned-Novelist Jule Selbo\, of The Dee Rommel Mysteries
DESCRIPTION:The library welcomes Maine-based author Jule Selbo for an in person event on Tuesday\, February 7 at 6:00 PM. Selbo will share about her writer’s journey from Hollywood as a screenwriter for the major studios\, to her turn to novel writing. Selbo has written historical fiction as well as her award-winning crime-mystery series: The Dee Rommel Mysteries that take place in Portland\, Maine. Selbo will be reading from her work as well as discuss craft\, the building of stories\, and where ideas come from. Questions are welcome. \n\n\n\n\nJule Selbo left a long career as a produced screenwriter (tv and film) in Los Angeles to move to Maine and focus on writing novels. Her first was a mystery/romance called FIND ME IN FLORENCE\, (1st Place Chatelaine Award) followed by two historical fiction novels\, one about the amazing experimental physicist Laura Bassi in the 1700s\, (Breaking Barriers\, recipient of a Goethe Award) the other about Giovanni Caboto (we know him as John Cabot) who\, in 1497\, sailed under England’s flag and claimed a large portion of the eastern seaboard for King Henry VII.  \n\n\n\n\n\nJule moved into her favorite genre – mystery crime: her Dee Rommel Mystery Series is well underway.  The first book: 10 DAYS: A Dee Rommel Mystery earned a spot on the Top-Five list of Kirkus’ 2021 best crime/mysteries from small publishers\, won the Silver Falchion Award for Best Investigator Novel at Killer Nashville\, was a finalist for a Maine Literary Award\, a 2021 Clue Award and a Foreword Review Award. They will discuss ways to enhance habitat for a diversity of birds\, fish\, and other wildlife that live in or visit your forests\, and provide information on where to find additional resources\, and who to contact for professional guidance. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nSally Stockwell is the Director of Conservation at Maine Audubon\, and a wildlife ecologist with experience in conservation of nongame\, rare\, and endangered species in freshwater wetlands\, coastal beaches and marshes\, and northern forests. She has additional experience as an interpretive naturalist\, environmental education instructor\, and outdoor adventure leader. Sally holds a Ph.D. in wildlife ecology and an M.S. in wildlife management from the University of Maine and a B.S. in biology from The Evergreen State College\, Olympia\, Washington.   \n\n\n\n\nSally has worked with a variety of partners and stakeholders on projects and programs to conserve Maine’s woods\, waters\, and wildlife for over 40 years\, and has been spearheading the Forestry for Maine Birds program to manage woodlands “with birds in mind” since 2013.  She serves on numerous state committees and has been actively involved in town planning\, open space planning\, and forest management and recreation in her home town of Cumberland. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nAllyssa Gregory is District Forester and Acting Landowner Outreach Forester for the Maine Forest Service. She assists with regulatory issues related to NRPA and FPA\, leads educational workshops\, and offers in-person visits to landowners with 10+ forested acres. She obtained a forestry degree from Southern Illinois University\, Carbondale. Her professional background includes rural forestry\, urban forestry\, horticulture\, and structure firefighting. SUMMARY:Josephine\, Bert\, and the Snowbaby: An Exhibit from the Maine Ski & Snowboard Museum
DESCRIPTION:During the month of February*\, a special exhibit from the Maine Ski & Snowboard Museum will be on view in the Picker Room Gallery at the Camden Public Library titled “Josephine\, Bert\, and the Snowbaby.” \n\n\n\nIn the 1890s\, Josephine Peary became the first woman to overwinter on an Arctic expedition\, while accompanying her husband Robert Peary on a trip to Greenland. While living with the Inuit community there\, she gave birth to a baby girl\, who was nicknamed the Snowbaby. This exhibit tells their story through photos and quotes from Josephine Peary’s three books about her adventures in the Far North. \n\n\n\nThe exhibit will be complemented by a presentation and discussion by Glenn Parkinson\, President of the Maine Ski and Snowboard Museum\, Ski Historian\, and Author. Join Glenn Parkinson on Saturday\, February 11 at 3:30 PM in the Picker Room to learn more about this fascinating story. SUMMARY:Tai Chi and Qigong Outdoors
DESCRIPTION:Starting in December\, sessions will occur on Mondays and Thursdays at 11:00 AM.  \n\n\n\nEnjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years.Classes are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. For more information contact Anna at camdentaiji@gmail.com.
