SUMMARY:What Is a Short-Story Cycle\, Why Write One\, and How? With Author Laura Bonazzoli
DESCRIPTION:Recently\, Morgan Talty\, author of Night of the Living Rez\, gave a shout-out to short-story cycles on Maine Public Radio’s Maine Calling\, noting that they’re an increasingly popular genre of fiction. But why? What exactly is a short-story cycle? What are its characteristics? As compared to a traditional short-story collection or novel\, what advantages—and challenges—might it hold for readers? And if you’re intrigued by the possibility of writing one\, how might you begin?  \n\n\n\nJoin Rockport author Laura Bonazzoli to explore this fascinating genre. Laura will also read excerpts from her own short-story cycle\, Consecration Pond\, which was described by Publishers Weekly as poetic and haunting\, “a solid\, meditative collection of interconnected short stories that weave together seemingly disparate narratives into a satisfying and cohesive whole.” Consecration Pond was published by indie press Toad Hall Editions in August 2022\, and is available at local bookstores\, directly from the publisher at toadhalleditions.ink\, and as an e-book for Kindle readers at Amazon.com. Signed copies of Consecration Pond will also be available at the event.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaura Bonazzoli’s fiction has appeared in numerous publications\, including Evening Street Review\, Exposition Review\, The Sandy River Review\, and many others. She has also published poetry and personal essays in literary magazines and anthologies. After the publication of her short stories “Prayer of the Bell” and “Spring Ice\,” she began working on a collection of linked stories of loss and resilience that all take place on a fictional pond in Maine. That collection became the short-story cycle\, Consecration Pond.

These conversation circles take place on first and third Thursdays from 1:00 – 2:00 PM and on first and third Wednesdays from 5:00 – 5:45 PM in the Picker Room. \n\n\n\nThese will be informal\, designed to help us get to know one another and find ways to talk about the climate crisis. There will be resources for guided discussion\, including podcasts\, articles\, and books\, as decided by each group. The goal is to help one another explore living in this remarkable period. Making connections about climate is a powerful way to build resilience. Free and open to all! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFormed in the spring of 2023\, CamdenCAN is a citizen-led organization committed to reducing Camden’s climate change through local action\, education\, advocacy\, and resources. We help our community take advantage of climate solutions with actionable steps. Together we CAN make a difference. Tookie\, who has landed a job selling books after years of incarceration that she survived by reading with murderous attention\, must solve the mystery of this haunting while at the same time trying to understand all that occurs in Minneapolis during a year of grief\, astonishment\, isolation\, and furious reckoning.

DESCRIPTION:The Camden Public Library welcomes back Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers for a fun and spooky performance of The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow on Saturday\, October 14 at 11:00 a.m.! \n\n\n\n\nIn this comedic version of the classic Washington Irving tale\, schoolteacher Ichabod Crane helps the Headless Horseman find a new head and a spookier image.  Meanwhile\, a jealous Brom Bones tries to run Ichabod out of town as they both vie for the affection of Katrina Van Tassel.  The show features 20 hand-crafted mouth and rod puppets\, and some shadow puppetry. Length of show: approx. 50 minutesRecommended audience: ages 4 and up \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrogtown Mountain Puppeteers is an award-winning puppetry troupe based in Bar Harbor\, Maine\, and comprised of three siblings – brothers Erik and Brian Torbeck and sister Robin (Torbeck) Erlandsen.  Founded in 2000\, Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers has performed at festivals\, schools\, libraries and theatres in the United States and Canada.   They write and create all the shows they perform and have received three Citations of Excellence from UNIMA-USA\, the highest national award in puppetry.
