MY BRICK STORY: Dean Jorgenson & Friends of Ed Shindle

“Ed Shindle was a long-time resident of Camden who had a deep love of books. The inscription ‘A FRIEND OF BEAUTY’ refers to his love of the arts — especially ballet, opera, and classical music. However, the inscription can also mean that he was a beautiful friend to have. ‘PASSEN SIE AUF!’ (Watch out! Be careful!) reflects Ed’s love of the German language. A German teacher by profession, this gentle curmudgeon was always the teacher playfully admonishing us to be careful. He tasked his friends to forget him, but it is one assignment that will always be marked incomplete.” — Dean Jorgenson
