SUMMARY:Book Donations Open at the Blue Door Book Shed
DESCRIPTION:We welcome donations of materials that can be added to our collection or sold to support our programs\, including: \n\n\n\n\nHardcover\, paperback\, and audio books\n\n\n\nCDs and DVDs in cases\n\n\n\nPuzzles bagged inside boxes\n\n\n\n\nDue to space and sorting limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. \n\n\n\nAll items must be in good or better condition. Items in poor / unsellable condition\, or for which there is no market\, create a financial burden for the Library and extra work for volunteers. \n\n\n\n\nPlease do NOT bring: \n\n\n\n\nBooks with mold or mildew\, musty smell\, water damage\, missing dust jackets\, stained or torn covers\, broken spines\, writing inside\, or other physical damage;\n\n\n\nTextbooks\, condensed books\, self-published books\, encyclopedias\, journals\, or magazines;\n\n\n\nCassette or VHS tapes;\n\n\n\nContemporary fiction more than 10 years old;\n\n\n\nMedical\, health\, computer\, technology\, or reference books more than 2 years old.\n\n\n\n\n\nDonations may be brought in boxes or bags to the blue door book shed located in the Meadow Parking Lot on Atlantic Avenue on Tuesdays from 9am – 12pm. Please do not leave donations at any other time – the weather will get to them before our volunteers do. \n\n\n\nWe rely on volunteers who generously give their time to accept\, sort\, and pack your donations. Due to their time and our space limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. Please be prepared to wait for a few minutes while a volunteer accepts your donation. \n\n\n\nIf you have a donation larger than 2 bags/boxes or are unable to come on a Tuesday morning\, please call the Library at (207) 236-3440. A staff member will collect and forward your information to a volunteer who will contact you to make alternative arrangements. \n\n\n\nPlease do not bring donations directly to the Library – there is no storage available at this time. \n\n\n\nThank you for your support of the Camden Public Library!

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Camden Public Library on Tuesday\, April 28 at 6:30 PM with Isabel Tutaine\, author of When Mist and Brine Touch\, to discuss the nature of truth in fiction and convince us that we are all pirates. \n\n\n\nIsabel Tutaine is Cuban by birth\, American by citizenship\, Cuban-New Englander by culture. She lives in midcoast Maine where she listens to what the ocean has to say\, then runs home to write it down. \n\n\n\nBestLit Review 2018 selected her as one of the ten best prose writers in midcoast Maine based on an excerpt from one of her novels. Blanket Sea nominated one of her pieces for Sundress Publications Best of the Net 2019. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout When Mist and Brine Touch\n\n\n\nAfter a pirate attack leaves Captain Littledove gravely wounded\, his only surviving passenger is Eliza\, a socialite with no practical experience. She must now keep them both alive aboard their abandoned ship\, fighting rats and the elements while following the cantankerous captain’s instructions.  \n\n\n\nAs they work together\, Eliza discovers hidden strengths while Littledove sees beyond her refined manners to recognize her courage. Though attraction blooms between them\, their different social stations leave both doubting a future together. When Mist and Brine Touch explores how crisis can shatter social barriers and reveal our true potential.

DESCRIPTION:Staff and students from ICS will provide information and answer questions about being a magnet student on Islesboro during this session in the Camden Public Library Picker Room on Wednesday\, April 29 at 5:00 P.M.  Come learn about this exciting\, one-of-a-kind and yet very accessible opportunity for students in grades 6-12! \n\n\n\nSource: Islesboro Central School\n\n\n\nSince the early 1990s\, students from the mainland have chosen to cross the bay each day to attend Islesboro Central School through our magnet program. ICS offers a small\, safe\, and supportive environment where students are known as individuals and challenged as learners. We meet students where they are—academically\, socially\, and emotionally—through personalized instruction\, strong relationships\, and a flexible approach to learning.  Our K–12 structure fosters strong relationships\, creative teaching\, and unique opportunities—from hands-on science and outdoor education to exceptional college counseling and independent study. With small class sizes\, dedicated teachers\, and a close-knit community\, ICS is a place where students can thrive both academically and personally. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. SUMMARY:"Welcome to Sardineland" Exhibit Talk with Matt Wheeler\, Penobscot Marine Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join PMM Digital Curator Matt Wheeler on Thursday\, April 30\, 6:30 PM in the Picker Room for a visual tour of the sardine era in Maine. This talk will conclude the month-long exhibit Welcome to Sardineland on display in the Library Picker Room\, from Penobscot Marine Museum.  \n\n\n\nMainers are resourceful: when out-of-state canning syndicates started marketing Maine juvenile herring as “sardines” late in the 19th century—partly as an answer to the strong European demand for this food commodity—local entrepreneurs made an industry out of it. For well over a century\, sardines formed the economic\, cultural\, and social backbone of communities all along our state’s coast. The workforce in canneries included thousands of women\, even more than the number of men fishing for herring\, a groundswell that owed a lot to the popularity of sardines as military rations during WWII. \n\n\n\nIn the decades after the war\, changes in American eating habits\, competition for herring as bait\, and federal quota restrictions led to the gradual collapse of this trend\, ending with the closing of Maine’s last sardine cannery in 2010. Former boomtowns went bust; others reinvented themselves.  \n\n\n\nMatt Wheeler serves as Digital Curator at PMM and has been working in the Museum’s Photo Archives since 2011. He guides PMM in building sound digital collections with an eye to accessibility and sustainability. Matt grew up in Camden and Lincolnville\, living on and appreciating Penobscot Bay\, and enjoys engaging audiences in the digital age with stories of the region’s cultural heritage. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis story is the basis for Penobscot Marine Museum’s 2024-25 campus-wide exhibit\, Sardineland\, which draws heavily from the museum’s holdings; their photo collections are burgeoning with images from the canneries\, the packing competitions\, the fishery\, and the state’s marketing efforts.

DESCRIPTION:Yoga in the Amphitheatre is back! Enjoy breathtaking views of Camden Harbor while being guided through a sequence of Yoga poses that are at once grounding and uplifting. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClasses are taught by Denyse Robinson\, Certified Yoga Teacher\, and will be held on Fridays at 9:00 am starting Friday\, May 1. Tuesdays morning yoga will resume starting Tuesday\, June 16. \n\n\n\nWe link breath with movement\, and mindfulness as we move together through an ever changing sequence of seated\, standing\, balance\, forward folds\, backbends and mildly inverted poses. \n\n\n\nFor more information and to get on Denyse’s email list\, please text her at 207-975-5325 or email at denyserobinson@gmail.com. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. DESCRIPTION:We welcome donations of materials that can be added to our collection or sold to support our programs\, including: \n\n\n\n\nHardcover\, paperback\, and audio books\n\n\n\nCDs and DVDs in cases\n\n\n\nPuzzles bagged inside boxes\n\n\n\n\nDue to space and sorting limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. \n\n\n\nAll items must be in good or better condition. Items in poor / unsellable condition\, or for which there is no market\, create a financial burden for the Library and extra work for volunteers. \n\n\n\n\nPlease do NOT bring: \n\n\n\n\nBooks with mold or mildew\, musty smell\, water damage\, missing dust jackets\, stained or torn covers\, broken spines\, writing inside\, or other physical damage;\n\n\n\nTextbooks\, condensed books\, self-published books\, encyclopedias\, journals\, or magazines;\n\n\n\nCassette or VHS tapes;\n\n\n\nContemporary fiction more than 10 years old;\n\n\n\nMedical\, health\, computer\, technology\, or reference books more than 2 years old.\n\n\n\n\n\nDonations may be brought in boxes or bags to the blue door book shed located in the Meadow Parking Lot on Atlantic Avenue on Tuesdays from 9am – 12pm. Please do not leave donations at any other time – the weather will get to them before our volunteers do. \n\n\n\nWe rely on volunteers who generously give their time to accept\, sort\, and pack your donations. Due to their time and our space limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. Please be prepared to wait for a few minutes while a volunteer accepts your donation. \n\n\n\nIf you have a donation larger than 2 bags/boxes or are unable to come on a Tuesday morning\, please call the Library at (207) 236-3440. A staff member will collect and forward your information to a volunteer who will contact you to make alternative arrangements. \n\n\n\nPlease do not bring donations directly to the Library – there is no storage available at this time. \n\n\n\nThank you for your support of the Camden Public Library!

DESCRIPTION:We welcome Dale Ruth Sherburne on Tuesday\, May 5\, 6:30 PM for a book talk and discussion featuring her book Neither Wife nor Widow\, a collection of personal stories that explore the emotional realities of caregiving for a loved one with dementia. This program takes place in-person in the Picker Room. Coffee\, tea\, and cookies provided. \n\n\n\nNeither Wife nor Widow is a riveting\, straight-from-the-trenches reveal about the emotions experienced while caregiving for a family member with dementia. Through dozens of conversational vignettes\, the author bares her feelings with raw\, unapologetic honesty. Stories range from humorous to touching to wrenching\, and shed a previously unseen light into a caregiver’s mind.  \n\n\n\nThe caregiver heart will lighten knowing that “caregiver-land” has no room for judgment or guilt. Loneliness will become kinship with the millions of like-feeling caregivers who stand tall as survivors\, proud of work that can bend the soul but never break it. Caregivers are the silent heroes who willingly give your all to your loved ones\, give it again and still yet again. You are magnificent! SUMMARY:Tai Chi and Qigong
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library.
