It can be a hopeful one.” We expect this book to carry us for five\, 1-hour sessions. They will be on exhibit in the Picker Room Gallery at Camden Public Library during the month of November.* The public is invited to an artist reception on November 22 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.The work spans two transformative summers: a month-long residency at Kingsbrae International Residency for the Arts (KIRA) in St. Andrews\, New Brunswick in 2024\, and self-structured periods on Monhegan Island and in St. Andrews in 2025. For Vendetti\, who has been drawing on Monhegan since the 1980s\, the sustained focus of the KIRA residency marked a significant shift in her practice.The exhibition includes approximately 15+ works—drawings and sketchbook pages—that capture atmospheric conditions\, tidal patterns\, and the particular quality of light in these coastal places. The novel is set in Jamaica in the 1830–40s and serves as a postcolonial and feminist prequel to Charlotte Brontë’s novel Jane Eyre (1847)\, describing the background to Mr. Rochester’s marriage from the point of view of his wife Antoinette Cosway\, a Creole heiress. Antoinette Cosway is Rhys’s version of Brontë’s “madwoman in the attic”. This latest book is a devastating and spot-on examination of domestic abuse’s impact on the mother and daughter relationship. \n\n\n\nRoddy Doyle is a Booker Prize winner and the author of ten acclaimed novels\, including The Commitments\, The Van\, Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha\, The Woman Who Walked Into Doors\, A Star Called Henry\, The Guts\, and Love\, as well as several works for children and young adults including the Rover novels.  \n\n\n\nYou do not have to be part of the book club to join this livestream event!
