SUMMARY:Tai Chi and Qigong
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. We cover the midcoast inland from Boothbay Harbor\, west to Windsor and China\, and east along the coast to Bucksport. Our mission is to promote long-term\, responsible use of natural resources through informed membership\, education and community awareness. \n\n\n\nThroughout the year fascinating and informative programs are presented (free!) via the Camden Public Library\, and there are numerous field trips to see birds and learn about the natural history of Maine. DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to a presentation by Ralph Dean\, a community educator with the Alzheimer’s Association\, in the Picker Room on Tuesday\, May 18 at 6:30 PM. \n\n\n\nRalph Dean\, Community Educator with the Alzheimer’s Association\, will share a presentation about building brain-healthy habits\, describing lifestyle changes that can improve and extend one’s cognitive function. Specifically\, it covers: \n\n\n\n\nHow taking care of one’s brain health is important now and throughout your life.\n\n\n\nHow to recognize the actions and habits that can protect and improve brain health.\n\n\n\nHow to make a plan to use the tips and info provided to build and implement those habits.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRalph Dean is a retired Naval Aviator who has been volunteering as a community educator and advocate for the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine since 2025. He was the primary caregiver for his wife prior to her death from Alzheimer’s dementia earlier that year.
