SUMMARY:Tai Chi and Qigong
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. SUMMARY:On Exhibit: "Welcome to Sardineland" from the Penobscot Marine Museum
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Sardineland is on display in the library’s Picker Room during the month of April.* Join PMM Digital Curator Matt Wheeler on Thursday\, April 30\, 6:30 PM in the Picker Room for the accompanying talk. \n\n\n\nFor twentieth-century Maine coastal communities\, herring (marketed as sardines) equaled money. Canneries\, fishing weirs\, and herring fishing boats called the Maine coast home\, from the Canadian to New Hampshire borders. \n\n\n\nBeginning in 1875\, the Sardine Industry and Herring Fishery was a major economic driver; the sardine canneries employed hundreds of women\, more than the number of men fishing for herring. Changes in American eating habits\, competition for herring as bait\, and federal quota restrictions led to the closing of Maine’s last sardine cannery in 2010. \n\n\n\nThis exhibit draws from the Penobscot Marine Museum’s extensive collections documenting the Maine sardine industry from catching to processing to marketing these tiny but mighty fish.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis exhibit also relates to Penobscot Marine Museum’s 2026 season exhibit of the same name\, which opens in late May.  \n\n\n\n* The Picker Room is also used for programs\, events\, and private meetings. DESCRIPTION:We welcome donations of materials that can be added to our collection or sold to support our programs\, including: \n\n\n\n\nHardcover\, paperback\, and audio books\n\n\n\nCDs and DVDs in cases\n\n\n\nPuzzles bagged inside boxes\n\n\n\n\nDue to space and sorting limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. \n\n\n\nAll items must be in good or better condition. Items in poor / unsellable condition\, or for which there is no market\, create a financial burden for the Library and extra work for volunteers. \n\n\n\n\nPlease do NOT bring: \n\n\n\n\nBooks with mold or mildew\, musty smell\, water damage\, missing dust jackets\, stained or torn covers\, broken spines\, writing inside\, or other physical damage;\n\n\n\nTextbooks\, condensed books\, self-published books\, encyclopedias\, journals\, or magazines;\n\n\n\nCassette or VHS tapes;\n\n\n\nContemporary fiction more than 10 years old;\n\n\n\nMedical\, health\, computer\, technology\, or reference books more than 2 years old.\n\n\n\n\n\nDonations may be brought in boxes or bags to the blue door book shed located in the Meadow Parking Lot on Atlantic Avenue on Tuesdays from 9am – 12pm. Please do not leave donations at any other time – the weather will get to them before our volunteers do. \n\n\n\nWe rely on volunteers who generously give their time to accept\, sort\, and pack your donations. Due to their time and our space limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. Please be prepared to wait for a few minutes while a volunteer accepts your donation. \n\n\n\nIf you have a donation larger than 2 bags/boxes or are unable to come on a Tuesday morning\, please call the Library at (207) 236-3440. A staff member will collect and forward your information to a volunteer who will contact you to make alternative arrangements. \n\n\n\nPlease do not bring donations directly to the Library – there is no storage available at this time. \n\n\n\nThank you for your support of the Camden Public Library!

SUMMARY:Exhibit Reception & Artist Talk: "Where We Belong" Paintings by Maureen Egan
DESCRIPTION:Maureen Egan‘s exhibit of original paintings\, titled “Where We Belong\,” will be on display in the Picker Room Gallery during the month of March.* The Public is invited to the exhibit closing reception and artist talk on Sunday\, March 29\, 2:00 – 4:00 PM. The talk will take place at 3:00 p.m. \n\n\n\nMaureen Egan’s reverent and heartfelt paintings act as visual talismans\, expressing a healing connection with and appreciation of life lessons\, cycles of life\, and the awe-inspiring beauty of the natural world. Egan is at heart a storyteller\, where reality and the imaginal worlds are often combined; her deft use of color and archetypal imagery creates resonant images that spark an uplifting inner response. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Using color\, light\, and intuition\, I strive to create paintings that elicit the depth of feeling I experience when in a scene in nature. For the last several years my focus has been recreating Maine scenes\,encounters that moved me during my visits around the state. Something about a place will draw my attention\, causing me to linger and take the time to study the details\, the light\, and the perceptions of my other senses that influence the character of the experience. \n\n\n\n“I take photographs\, which later\, in my studio\, help me recall the fullness of memory and feeling. Sometimes I begin a painting with a title in mind (often a line from a poem) that encapsulates the tone of the experience and serves as a mantra or theme to keep me on track. I hope to convey the expansiveness\, peacefulness\, and joy that such experiences bring.” – Maureen Egan \n\n\n\n\nTo keep her work accessible to a broader audience\, she also offers note cards and giclee prints of her paintings at a variety of locations in and around the state\, and on her website\, eganart.com.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrior to her painting career\, Egan was an illustrator for Downeast magazine as well as Enrollment Director for the Ashwood Waldorf School in Rockport. \n\n\n\n“My artistic practice has taught me that an image and especially color and light can truly help a person feel a comforting or empowering shift. Initially that person is me and I often turn to imagery when I am lost or troubled by a situation. When creating a scene\, I listen to the painting\, allowing it to evolve and guide me into the feelings that I may not have words for\, but which are expressed—and lifted—into the beauty of the colors and forms that manifest on the canvas.” \n\n\n\n* The Picker Room is also used for programs\, events\, and private meetings. This listing is for the virtual Meet the Author Q & A on Friday\, March 27 at 4:30 PM with Brandon Keim! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is a book club for nature enthusiasts and bird nerds who are excited to learn and build community throughout the year!\n\n\n\nEach season\, we will feature one book that connects to our themes. There will be a two-part discussion for each title: an in person discussion at Camden Public Library (tea and coffee provided!) and a virtual ‘Meet the Author’ Q&A session over zoom. Registration is required. DESCRIPTION:Every Friday\, at 11:00 am\, on the library’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page\, the library will stream a brand new recording of local thespian\, Joseph Coté reading aloud selections from a wide variety of fascinating and entertaining books of fiction and non-fiction. \n\n\n\nFor March 27\, Coté will read aloud from Richard Matheson’s Bid Time Return / Somewhere in Time. \n\n\n\nBid Time Return is the powerful story of a love that transcends time and space\, written by one of the Grand Masters of modern fantasy. \n\n\n\nMatheson’s classic novel tells the moving\, romantic story of a modern man whose love for a woman he has never met draws him back in time to a luxury hotel in San Diego in 1896\, where he finds his soul mate in the form of a celebrated actress of the previous century.  \n\n\n\nThe 1980 movie version of the book was titled Somewhere in Time and starred Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour; it remains a cult classic shown annually at planned gatherings of devotees.  Somewhere in Time was used for all subsequent editions of the book. \n\n\n\nClick the links to find the library’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThoughts to share? DESCRIPTION:Join us in the Picker Room on Thursday\, March 26 at 6:30 PM! \n\n\n\nTom Jamrog will discuss physical and mental preparations for longer hikes and share knowledge about adaptations in modern equipment that will assist aging hikers with their own experience of extended engagement in nature. \n\n\n\nTom is the 278th person to have completed unsupported thru-hikes of the Appalachian (AT)\, Pacific Crest (PCT)\, and Continental Divide Trails (CDT)\, and was awarded the “Triple Crown of Hiking” by the American Long Distance Hiking Association-West.  He is a Licensed Maine Guide and past President of the Maine Association of School Psychologists. \n\n\n\nTom recently completed his fifth backpacking adventure through Maine’s 100-Mile Wilderness (the northernmost\, remote\, and last segment of the Appalachian Trail from Monson to Katahdin.) In April of 2025 he backpacked a 260-mile portion of the Arizona National Scenic Trail.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTom will also have signed copies of his book for sale\, In the Path of Young Bulls: An Odyssey on America’s Continental Divide Trail\, detailing his unsupported\, five-months-long\, 2\,500 mile trek over the Rocky Mountains from Mexico to Canada.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. DESCRIPTION:We welcome donations of materials that can be added to our collection or sold to support our programs\, including: \n\n\n\n\nHardcover\, paperback\, and audio books\n\n\n\nCDs and DVDs in cases\n\n\n\nPuzzles bagged inside boxes\n\n\n\n\nDue to space and sorting limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. \n\n\n\nAll items must be in good or better condition. Items in poor / unsellable condition\, or for which there is no market\, create a financial burden for the Library and extra work for volunteers. \n\n\n\n\nPlease do NOT bring: \n\n\n\n\nBooks with mold or mildew\, musty smell\, water damage\, missing dust jackets\, stained or torn covers\, broken spines\, writing inside\, or other physical damage;\n\n\n\nTextbooks\, condensed books\, self-published books\, encyclopedias\, journals\, or magazines;\n\n\n\nCassette or VHS tapes;\n\n\n\nContemporary fiction more than 10 years old;\n\n\n\nMedical\, health\, computer\, technology\, or reference books more than 2 years old.\n\n\n\n\n\nDonations may be brought in boxes or bags to the blue door book shed located in the Meadow Parking Lot on Atlantic Avenue on Tuesdays from 9am – 12pm. Please do not leave donations at any other time – the weather will get to them before our volunteers do. \n\n\n\nWe rely on volunteers who generously give their time to accept\, sort\, and pack your donations. Due to their time and our space limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. Please be prepared to wait for a few minutes while a volunteer accepts your donation. \n\n\n\nIf you have a donation larger than 2 bags/boxes or are unable to come on a Tuesday morning\, please call the Library at (207) 236-3440. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library.
