SUMMARY:Book Donations Open at the Blue Door Book Shed
DESCRIPTION:We welcome donations of materials that can be added to our collection or sold to support our programs\, including: \n\n\n\n\nHardcover\, paperback\, and audio books\n\n\n\nCDs and DVDs in cases\n\n\n\nPuzzles bagged inside boxes\n\n\n\n\nDue to space and sorting limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. \n\n\n\nAll items must be in good or better condition. Items in poor / unsellable condition\, or for which there is no market\, create a financial burden for the Library and extra work for volunteers. \n\n\n\n\nPlease do NOT bring: \n\n\n\n\nBooks with mold or mildew\, musty smell\, water damage\, missing dust jackets\, stained or torn covers\, broken spines\, writing inside\, or other physical damage;\n\n\n\nTextbooks\, condensed books\, self-published books\, encyclopedias\, journals\, or magazines;\n\n\n\nCassette or VHS tapes;\n\n\n\nContemporary fiction more than 10 years old;\n\n\n\nMedical\, health\, computer\, technology\, or reference books more than 2 years old.\n\n\n\n\n\nDonations may be brought in boxes or bags to the blue door book shed located in the Meadow Parking Lot on Atlantic Avenue on Tuesdays from 9am – 12pm. Please do not leave donations at any other time – the weather will get to them before our volunteers do. \n\n\n\nWe rely on volunteers who generously give their time to accept\, sort\, and pack your donations. Due to their time and our space limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. Please be prepared to wait for a few minutes while a volunteer accepts your donation. \n\n\n\nIf you have a donation larger than 2 bags/boxes or are unable to come on a Tuesday morning\, please call the Library at (207) 236-3440. A staff member will collect and forward your information to a volunteer who will contact you to make alternative arrangements. \n\n\n\nPlease do not bring donations directly to the Library – there is no storage available at this time. \n\n\n\nThank you for your support of the Camden Public Library!

Join us in-person in the Picker Room at Camden Public Library\, or watch virtually on Zoom. Coffee and refreshments will be served in the Picker Room starting at 10:00 AM. Each program starts at 10:30 AM.  \n\n\n\nTuesday\, January 27: “Elements of Landscape Design” with Todd Richardson\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTodd Richardson will kick off this series by walking participants through the fundamentals of landscape planning and design. \n\n\n\nTodd Richardson has over three decades of experience in site planning and design. As principal\, he has managed the award-winning firm of Richardson & Associates from its inception. His education includes a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst\, and a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources and Land Use Planning from the University of Maine. Mr. Richardson has extensive experience in site development and design\, natural resource management planning\, and trails\, recreationals\, and open space planning and design. \n\n\n\nAs an educator\, Mr. Richardson has been recognized for his participatory approach to teaching and was awarded a teaching excellence award from the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard University. DESCRIPTION:We humans\, and the rest of the planet\, exist in a tightly bound web of interconnections. These intersections are both our solution/salvation—it will take each and everyone of us working together to create a better world—and paradoxically it’s also these tightly bound systems that  are also causing the challenging conditions—droughts\, wildfires\, heat waves\, human migrations\, extreme weather\, biodiversity loss\, ocean acidification\, etc.— of our our current climate-changed world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIf you’d like to get a better understanding of these interconnections\, meet other curious and engaged Midcoast residents\, and find ways to not only remain resilient during the upcoming decades\, CamdenCAN would like to invite you to join us for our Fall 2025 Resilient Reading Group. \n\n\n\nThe reading group will meet on second and fourth Tuesday afternoons\, 4:00 – 5:00 PM at Camden Public Library in the Picker Room. Dates are 9/23\, 10/7 (bonus session)\, 10/28\, 11/11\, 11/25\, 12/9\, 12/23\, 1/13/26\, 1/27/26. May include a zoom component if desired. If you have questions or would like to preregister\, email camdencan2025@gmail.com.  \n\n\n\nThe ultimate goal of these book discussions is to inform as well as expand one another’s understandings of the moment we are living in. One of the greatest actions to take to improve our current situation is to talk about it\, as well as forge new alliances and build community. Come join us—let’s see what we can do to thrive in these challenging times.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur first book will be Human Nature: Nine Ways to Feel About Our Changing Planet by Kate Marvel. Marvel is a climate scientist who conveys her deep understanding of the climate systems with elegance\, humility\, and humor. Her chapters include Wonder\, Anger\, Guilt\, Fear\, Grief\, Pride\, and Hope. Marvel is our guide and our coach. She writes\, “It will not be easy. A happy ending is not guaranteed. But a better one is possible…No one is coming to save us. We have to create the we have to create the world in which we want to live. …Science sets the limits; we write the story. It can be a hopeful one.” We expect this book to carry us for five\, 1-hour sessions. There will be weekly readings and prepared discussion questions\, yet also room for the group to vary the pace and topics depending on personal interests.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe second book in CamdenCAN’s Fall/Winter reading series will be Life After Doom: Wisdom and Courage for a World Falling Apart by Brian D. McLaren. Far from an apocalyptic nightmare\, this work\, written by a former English professor and pastor\, offers a life-affirming approach to living in difficult times. As the author states\, “Life After Doom is for everyone who has reached a point where not facing their unpeaceful\, uneasy\, unwanted feelings about the future has become more draining than facing them. It’s for anyone who understands that we’ve entered a dangerous time and we need to prepare ourselves to face that danger with wisdom\, courage\, character\, and compassion.”

SUMMARY:On Exhibit: "Sumner's Abecedary for the Advanced Reader" Prints by Sumner Roberts
DESCRIPTION:Sumner Robert’s exhibit of original\, alphabet-inspired prints\, titled “Sumner’s Abecedary for the Advanced Reader” will be on display in the Picker Room Gallery during the month of February.* The Public is invited to the exhibit reception to view the works\, meet the artist\, and learn about his process on Saturday\, February 21\, 3:00 – 4:00 PM. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The Abecedary is an artistic rabbit hole I fell into and which took me three years to worm my way through. I made three rules for myself: I had to progress in alphabetical order\, make no decisions or sketching more than three letters in advance\, and keep the images simple. I stuck to the first two.  \n\n\n\n“What kept me going was the fun of learning about words\, selecting and practicing appropriate letterforms\, and the challenge of creating a meaningful image within the constraints of color block printing.” — Sumner Roberts \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHaving been a farmer and farrier for many years\, Sumner Roberts finally held on to the wrong horse for too long and damaged his back. Looking for something else to do with a similar level of beauty and craftsmanship but with less heavy lifting\, he happened to visit a printmaking studio and immediately knew where he wanted to be. \n\n\n\n* The Picker Room is also used for programs\, events\, and private meetings. Check the calendar and call the library to ensure the Picker Room is open for viewing.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. DESCRIPTION:We welcome donations of materials that can be added to our collection or sold to support our programs\, including: \n\n\n\n\nHardcover\, paperback\, and audio books\n\n\n\nCDs and DVDs in cases\n\n\n\nPuzzles bagged inside boxes\n\n\n\n\nDue to space and sorting limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. \n\n\n\nAll items must be in good or better condition. Items in poor / unsellable condition\, or for which there is no market\, create a financial burden for the Library and extra work for volunteers. \n\n\n\n\nPlease do NOT bring: \n\n\n\n\nBooks with mold or mildew\, musty smell\, water damage\, missing dust jackets\, stained or torn covers\, broken spines\, writing inside\, or other physical damage;\n\n\n\nTextbooks\, condensed books\, self-published books\, encyclopedias\, journals\, or magazines;\n\n\n\nCassette or VHS tapes;\n\n\n\nContemporary fiction more than 10 years old;\n\n\n\nMedical\, health\, computer\, technology\, or reference books more than 2 years old.\n\n\n\n\n\nDonations may be brought in boxes or bags to the blue door book shed located in the Meadow Parking Lot on Atlantic Avenue on Tuesdays from 9am – 12pm. Please do not leave donations at any other time – the weather will get to them before our volunteers do. \n\n\n\nWe rely on volunteers who generously give their time to accept\, sort\, and pack your donations. Due to their time and our space limitations\, we can only accept 2 bags or boxes at a time. Please be prepared to wait for a few minutes while a volunteer accepts your donation. \n\n\n\nIf you have a donation larger than 2 bags/boxes or are unable to come on a Tuesday morning\, please call the Library at (207) 236-3440. David has been lecturing about gardens nationwide for over 25 years\, and teaches about growing herbaceous perennials at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square\, Pennsylvania. \n\n\n\n\n\nDavid is the author of The Layered Garden\, which won a Gold Medal from the Garden Writers Association for Best Overall Book of the Year. SUMMARY:Tai Chi and Qigong
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. This program takes place in-person and on Zoom on Thursday\, February 5\, at 6:30 PM. \n\n\n\nThis talk explores why common symptoms such as bloating\, IBS\, constipation\, and diarrhea are so prevalent\, and how functional medicine looks at digestive health differently. \n\n\n\nAttendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how digestion works and practical insights they can apply right away. \n\n\n\nThis program takes place in person\, and will also be streamed live on Zoom.
