From August 7-8\, 2026\, this rare Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration of Independence will be on view as part of a celebratory exhibit in Camden Public Library’s beautiful and historic Reading Room! \n\n\n\nDon’t miss this once-in-a-generation exhibit during America’s 250th\, right here in beautiful Camden. DESCRIPTION:Yoga in the Amphitheatre is back! Enjoy breathtaking views of Camden Harbor while being guided through a sequence of Yoga poses that are at once grounding and uplifting. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClasses are taught by Denyse Robinson\, Certified Yoga Teacher\, and will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:00 am through October. In July\, yoga will also be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 7:45 am. \n\n\n\nWe link breath with movement\, and mindfulness as we move together through an ever changing sequence of seated\, standing\, balance\, forward folds\, backbends and mildly inverted poses. \n\n\n\nFor more information and to get on Denyse’s email list\, please text her at 207-975-5325 or email at denyserobinson@gmail.com. You are welcome to just show up\, but it is recommended to join the email list in case of a scheduling or location change due to weather. \n\n\n\nA limited number of mats\, blocks\, and straps are provided.  If you like a blanket for practice\, please bring one. All levels are welcome. SUMMARY:Tai Chi and Qigong
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. With a background that includes Virginia bands After Six\, Front Page News\, and The Groove\, Ann possesses a remarkable vocal range that allows her to deliver exceptional performances\, ranging from the powerful tunes of Janis Joplin to the soulful ballads of Whitney Houston. \n\n\n\nSupporting Ann’s dynamic vocals is her husband\, Barry Brindle\, a gifted guitarist who honed his craft in the popular Connecticut group Biggio Sound before being joined by Ann in The Groove. Together\, they formed the local favorite acoustic duo\, Jonesville\, which was also voted as Waldo County’s Number One band\, solidifying their status as a leading musical force in the area. \n\n\n\nCompleting the Rainmakers rhythm section are two talented musicians. Drummer Tim Woitowitz hails from New York City. After relocated to Maine\, Tim went on to collaborate with various bands\, including Steel Rail Express\, Between Dead Stations\, Memphis Lightning\, and The Juke Rockets. Tim collaborated on The Juke Rockets’ first studio album\, “Hungry Soul\,” recorded at Sunset House Studios. \n\n\n\nSean Oxton is Anni and the Rainmakers newest member. Refreshments provided. \n\n\n\nDiscover Belfast Senior College through an engaging panel featuring instructors across arts\, humanities\, science\, and more\, sharing course highlights and how lifelong learning fosters curiosity\, connection\, and community. \n\n\n\nPanel of Instructors\n\n\n\n\nKristin Frangoulis has taught theater in high schools and in an arts and humanities school for gifted and talented children. She has extensive experience in directing and acting as well as behind-the-scenes work as artistic director. Kristin founded two theater companies\, The Blue Hill Players (a community theater)\, and The Peanutbutter & Jelly Players (an outreach theater for disadvantaged children\, which was partially funded by Arts and Humanities grants.) Kristin has always had an interest in Russian literature. She has studied the Russian language and has traveled to Russia in the past. \n\n\n\nClick for Course Synopsis: “Anton Chekov’s Plays Out Loud”\nCourse Synopsis: Anton Chekov’s Plays Out Loud. This course is primarily focused on reading aloud a few of Chekov’s plays\, both one-act comedies and one full act serious play. The course promises to be both fun and thoughtful. We shall explore the short-lived Russian Renaissance of the 19th century and Anton Chekov’s part in its literary scene\, and his influence on the modern theater. \n\n\n\nWe shall read the hilarious one acts The Bear\, and The Marriage Proposal. The two full act plays under consideration are The Cherry Orchard and Uncle Vanya. Time permitting we could read them both. Chekov was a master at understanding and revealing the internal motivation of his characters against the background of the changing Russian society. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoseph Coté received his theater history\, production & actor training at the American Repertory Theater (Boston)\, the Old Globe Theater (San Diego) and with the Royal Shakespeare Company (London). He has been a company member at the Denver Center Theater Company and Shakespeare festivals in Indiana\, Massachusetts\, Idaho & Oregon. Joseph performed with the British Council’s touring theater company in Istanbul\, Shanghai and Singapore. Joseph has led explorations in dramatic literature of the 16th to the 20th century at Coastal Senior College and Mid-coast Senior College for the past six years. The University of Maine\, Orono and Washington University\, St. Louis are his alma maters. \n\n\n\nClick for Course Synopsis: “The Fall (or Rise?) of Shakespeare’s Comic Eccentrics”\nThree men alike in grandiose spirit. Three plays different in setting and story. Three stand-out characters teetering in harm’s way. What happens when reality bites and their lives are rocked. Will they fall? Will they tread water? Or will they rise\, stoop to conquer\, reinvent themselves\, assume new roles\, travel in new directions? Will they become different men with grandeur calmed and purpose re-envisioned? Explore the worlds of MALVOLIO in “Twelfth Night”\, SIR JOHN FALSTAFF in “Henry IV\, Part 1” & PAROLLES in “All’s Well That Ends Well.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFred Bowers has served Belfast Senior College for 5 years on the Curriculum Committee and now is the AV coordinator. He has a Ph.D. in Forest soils from the University of Washington. He worked for 27 years as a Research Soil Scientist in the NJDEP\, studying and regulating soil and water pollution issues. He teaches Biosphere Ecology: Where Science meets Nature. \n\n\n\nClick for Course Synopsis: “Biosphere Ecology: Where Science Meets Nature”\nThe Biosphere is a concept of the Earth that is the sum of geology\, climatic zones\, vegetation\, food chains\, and soil processes where life exists. It is derived from the scientific discoveries based on Von Humboldt’s Cosmos and his observation of ‘Naturgemälde’\, which in 1803\, described the relationships between elevation and vegetation. The subject of Ecology is its modern discipline. World soils\, biogeographic cycling within forests and other biomes\, and studies the influences of issues like water pollution by fertilizer\, pesticides\, erosion\, septic systems\, and stormwater management\, are topics that will be discussed in this course. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. David Urquia is a retired Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University\, now engaged in academic activities writing and lecturing on Civil War history. He is a Sigma Xi honors graduate of Princeton University\, the University of Virginia School of Medicine\, and the Duke University Surgical Residency Program. He serves as Scientific Chairman for the Piedmont Orthopedic Society. \n\n\n\nHe is a member of the Petersburg Civil War Roundtable\, the Petersburg Battlefield Foundation\, and an Associate Member of the Cobb Camp #68 Sons of Union Veterans Civil War\, serving as Camp Historian and Commander. His book released in 2026\, Over the Dead Line of Belle Isle\, is an in-depth study of that notorious POW camp in Confederate Richmond and the fate of a group of Maine soldiers imprisoned there. Other literary credits include his book revealing recently discovered diaries and letters of four soldiers from Maine\, for release in early 2027. A third work in preparation explores the motivations of common Civil War soldiers. \n\n\n\nClick for Course Synopsis: “The Tortured Ghosts of City Point Cemetery” \nA limited number of citizen and veterans’ groups follow the history of the American Civil War with a passion\, whether this be in formal lecture series or social media groups. However\, to perhaps make this subject more interesting to a broader audience\, for my Fall of 2026 lectures I will expose a more mystical side show of Civil War history rarely discussed in traditional classrooms or chat rooms\, that is\, paranormal and supernatural activities associated with Civil War battlefields and landmarks. \n\n\n\nWe will begin this lecture series by discovering a few long-forgotten common Maine soldiers buried at City Point Cemetery in Hopewell\, VA\, near the massive battlefields around Petersburg and Richmond where so many soldiers died and were hastily buried\, their tortured spirits still allegedly roaming the area. We will tell these soldiers’ personal stories\, where they fought\, where they died\, and why their bodies were never returned home to Maine. One lost Confederate common soldier is also revealed. This will give us the historical background we need to understand the fallen men behind the paranormal phenomenon some claim exists. \n\n\n\nWe then study the observations of multiple observers over the years who claim to experience paranormal activity near these areas around City Point\, Petersburg\, South Richmond\, and other Richmond area haunts. Videos prepared by paranormal investigators will also be shown throughout the lecture series. \n\n\n\nYou\, the audience\, will make up your own minds as to the validity of these paranormal phenomena\, or otherwise enhance your preexisting beliefs in the supernatural.  If the dead can in fact communicate with us through paranormal media\, what better place to go looking for them than a massive Civil War battlefield where thousands died of wounds or disease and whose graves and their remains were never recovered after the war\, leaving the tortured spirits of fallen soldiers to roam old homes\, cemeteries\, and battlefields for all eternity! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeter Reilly has been teaching at Belfast Senior College for over 15 years. He has a BS and MBA from Monmouth University and before retirement worked in Banking and Financial Consulting. Additionally at the end of his business career he worked summers as an instructor for Outward Bound on Hurricane Island\, Maine. \n\n\n\nClick for Course Synopsis: “Winston Churchill”\nWinston Churchill is not only a witness to the great events of the 20th century\, he is part of the events. Fortunately for us and history there is much written about his life and times including his own great writings. We will see the course to be a study of how decisions\, events and happenings in the early 20th century have subsequently impacted and shaped our world today. We will supplement the course with poetry and music of the times. Sometimes Poetry and Music is a better window to capture the feelings of people than a newspaper story.

These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library. We have built two houses and raised two boys. Bring your own camp chair or blanket for comfy seating. Picnics\, dogs\, families\, and dancing welcome!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaine’s Route 66 band is a newly (March\, 2025) formed group of experienced Maine musicians who have played in orchestras\, salsa\, bluegrass\, folk\, rock n’ roll\, country\, R&B\, and blues groups. The band was formed to bring an original acoustic and electric sound to classic songs with flute\, saxophone\, guitar\, bass\, percussion\, and vocals. Get your kicks with Route 66! \n\n\n\nThis live performance will feature popular song from the 1950’s and 1960’s during a period of explosive change in American music and society. \n\n\n\n\nWhat song is often considered the first rock n’ roll song?\n\n\n\nWho recorded a debut single with the Blue Moon Boys in 1954?\n\n\n\nWhere was Hitsville USA?\n\n\n\nWhat song performed on Ed Sullivan’s TV show kick-started the British Invasion?\n\n\n\n\nAlan Freed\, a disc jockey in Cleveland during the early 1950s\, popularized the phrase “rock and roll” which grew from the blues\, boogie-woogie music of the 1930’s and 1940’s. Teenagers embraced rock n’ roll music as a form of rebellion against established norms and the authority of their parents. Popular 1960s artists included: \n\n\n\n\nChubby Checker\, Ben King\, Del Shannon\, Four Seasons\, Sam Cooke\, Ray Charles\, Ronettes\, Bob Dylan\, The Byrds\, Beach Boys\, Roy Orbison. Beatles\, Animals\, Dave Clark Five\, Herman’s Hermits\, Rolling Stones\, Mamas and Papas\, Wilson Picket\, and Supremes\, Aretha Franklin\, Van Morrison\, Jimi Hendrix\, Jefferson Airplane\, Cream\, The Monkees\, Creedence Clearwater Revival\n\n\n\nDuring the 1950s and ‘60s\, Johnny Cash performed thirty live prison shows.\n\n\n\n\n1960s started with the first astronaut in space\, the civil rights movement\, the Newport folk festival\, and ended in 1969 with Apollo 11 moon landing\, the Beatles break-up\, the Woodstock festival\, and Elvis’ return to live performing in Los Vegas.

DESCRIPTION:Tern the Page is a book club for nature enthusiasts and bird nerds who are excited to learn and build community throughout the year\, presented in partnership between Hog Island Audubon Camp and Camden Public Library. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach season\, we will feature one book that connects to our themes. There will be two meetings for each title: an in person book club meeting at Camden Public Library (tea and coffee provided!) and a virtual ‘Meet the Author’ Q&A session over Zoom. DESCRIPTION:Yoga in the Amphitheatre is back! Enjoy breathtaking views of Camden Harbor while being guided through a sequence of Yoga poses that are at once grounding and uplifting. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClasses are taught by Denyse Robinson\, Certified Yoga Teacher\, and will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:00 am through October. In July\, yoga will also be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 7:45 am. \n\n\n\nWe link breath with movement\, and mindfulness as we move together through an ever changing sequence of seated\, standing\, balance\, forward folds\, backbends and mildly inverted poses. \n\n\n\nFor more information and to get on Denyse’s email list\, please text her at 207-975-5325 or email at denyserobinson@gmail.com. You are welcome to just show up\, but it is recommended to join the email list in case of a scheduling or location change due to weather. \n\n\n\nA limited number of mats\, blocks\, and straps are provided.  If you like a blanket for practice\, please bring one. SUMMARY:Tai Chi and Qigong
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the many benefits of tai chi and qigong through the exploration of movements and principles. These beginning classes are beneficial for people of all levels of fitness—developing awareness\, relaxation\, energy\, flexibility\, strength\, balance\, and pleasure in the open air. \n\n\n\nTai Chi meets in the Amphitheatre every Monday and Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. \n\n\n\n\nAnna Dembska is a certified teacher of Yang Family tai chi. She studies tai chi and qigong with Mike Shunney in Rockland and Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing) from Wudang Mountain\, China. She has also studied Yang Family tai chi with Grandmaster Yang Jun and San Shou two-person play with Dr. Jay Dunbar and Kathleen Cusick. Anna is a singer\, composer\, and voice teacher by profession\, and her tai chi teaching is informed by its many similarities with vocal technique\, which she has been practicing and teaching for many years. \n\n\n\nClasses are by donation\, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Camden Public Library.
