Monday Morning Book Club: “Hamnet” by Maggie O’Farrell
Monday, May 16 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
For the month May, the group will be reading and discussing “Hamnet” by Maggie O’Farrell. See summary below. To be connected with the group’s coordinator, email firstname.lastname@example.org. New members always welcome! The Monday Morning Book Club (formerly the Tuesday Book Club) will now be meeting in the Picker Room of the Camden Public Library on 3rd Mondays at 10:00 am. There will be an option for people to join remotely via Zoom, for those who cannot attend in person. Be sure to specify to the group’s coordinator if you plan to attend in person or via Zoom.
Summary: Hamnet is essentially a family-type drama telling the background between Will Shakespeare and his wife Agnes. It follows their relationship as they deal with their grief over the death of their son Hamnet, the implications of Will’s career and Will’s infidelity. In the end, Will writes the play Hamlet as a farewell to his son — it’s a play where the father dies instead of the son and the ghost’s final line is “Remember me.”
