Picker Room Exhibit: Deborah Loughlin, Cyan: The Blues of Art-Making

Thursday, September 23 @ 10:00 am 6:00 pm

The Camden Public Library announces the re-opening of the library’s Picker Room Gallery in September after 17 months of closure during the pandemic. The new art exhibit, Cyan: The Blues of Art-Making, will feature cyanotype works by Waldoboro artist Deborah Loughlin. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. Visitors will be swept up in whimsy by Loughlin’s imaginary maps, collage creatures, and boats made of memories. The artwork can be viewed from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Saturday, from September 2 through September 28.

The art show will be complemented by a Zoom event with Loughlin on Thursday, September 23, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. The artist will be describing her inspiration and cyanotype techniques, and discussing how her processes and work continue to evolve. To participate in this special presentation, click the link below to register and receive the Zoom log-in information to join.

Fans of Loughlin’s work will also have an opportunity to meet the artist in person on Saturday, September 25, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the artist’s reception. Attendees are asked to wear a mask to this event inside the library’s Picker Room.

Deborah Loughlin lives on the midcoast with her family, her dog Cordelia, and many chickens. She has a working art studio called Overboard. Being raised on islands in Casco Bay, serving for years on the water while in the military, and retiring to the midcoast have all influenced Loughlin’s art-making and strong love for the state of Maine. Loughlin’s work has been featured in solo shows as well as juried and group shows throughout Maine.
