Connecting Across Cultures New Mainers Series: The Afghan Community of Maine

Tuesday, December 7, 2021 @ 6:30 pm 7:30 pm

Ever since Kabul fell to the Taliban, people in Maine have been working to try to get relatives out of harm’s way, and safely resettled in Maine. Dr. Abdul Rahman Qani, President of the Afghan Community of Maine, will join us for our next session of the New Mainers Series on Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Also on the panel will be Sara Jafari, Rona Sayed, Zahid Abid, and Sami Shahed (pictured below). The discussion take place on Zoom, and will include some glimpses into life in Afghanistan today, an overview of the Afghan community in Maine, and an explanation of humanitarian parole, sponsorships, and other practical ways Mainers can help Afghans. The series is presented by Connecting Across Cultures and the Camden Public Library.
