Jumpstart January: Postcarding as a Verb
Thursday, January 7, 2021 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
There’s no better time to learn a new creative practice than the start of a new year, especially when we’re all stuck inside because of COVID-19 and cold weather! Join artist Robinsunne for this free workshop that will teach you to use words in artwork to inspire, intend, and engage. EMAIL firstname.lastname@example.org TO REGISTER AND REQUEST A LINK TO ATTEND. This program is part of our Jumpstart January Series (see below for links to our other Jumpstart January programs).
Information about the program from Robinsunne:
We, and our planet, are in transformation. We might be in quarantine, or socially distanced as we rebalance, but making art to share can help us grow together. This Jumpstart January Zoom Class is about finding the best words to help us along the way.
Postcard Art is small enough to not be too intimidating, but big enough to share lots of play, color, and passion. Adding powerful words, inspirational quotes, favorite lyrics, encouraging affirmations, and even vibrant manifestos, can stir the souls of all who see. It is good to have a goal.
You will learn how to:
· Make word “stickers” (with or without adhesive) in the colors of the rainbow.
· Collect a cut-out sheet of your favorite quotes and lyrics to use in all manner of mixed media and inspirational art.
· Write the best and most effective affirmations/encouragements for yourself and others.
· Turn your greatest hopes into motivational soapbox speeches, and then format them into background texture for future postcard art.
· Get some extra brain exercise while making a postcard Label Medallion – a perfect background for these quotes and words.
Please have on hand:
o Paper scissors
o Pencil and pen
o 10 sheets of plain white copy paper
o Cardstock or papers in a pleasing range of solid colors
o White Glue (Elmer’s “Glue-All” is great)
o A beginning list of your favorite words, like Truth, Love, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, etc.
o A starter list of favorite quotes and lyrics (Google Search: “quotes about ____”)
You will receive Instruction Notes so that you can follow along during the class and keep on making fabulous postcards long afterwards. You will also receive a list of helpful links, and maybe even a list of Postcard Partners if we decide to do that.
