Artist’s Reception for Peter Yesis’ Show — The Appeal of Soft Realism
Thursday, March 5, 2020 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
The Appeal of Soft Realism, paintings by local artist Peter Yesis, will be on exhibit in the Picker Room of the Camden Public Library throughout the month of March. The artist’s reception will be held on Thursday, March 5, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Working from his home studio in Searsport, Maine, Peter explores new ways to convey his thoughts and feelings with oil paint as he renders scenes of nature in a soft realistic style. “When I am painting,” Peter says, “my goal is to draw the viewer’s attention to the underlying beauty that I see. While I may set the mood and begin to tell a story, the painting should hold the viewer’s attention long enough so they discover and feel something of their own.”
Peter Yesis has always been drawn to the drama of the sea, the delight of flowers and to the beauty of the outdoors. A native of New Jersey he shifted his focus to traditional easel painting after a long career in the engineering field. His artwork has been featured in national exhibitions and has received numerous awards and honors and is represented locally at the Camden Falls Gallery. Later in the month on March 26, at 7:00 pm, Peter’s wife, Kim Yesis, will be giving a talk in the Picker Room on her book Side by Side: Tales Behind the Canvas, which discusses Peter’s journey into art from her vantage point.
