Camden Public Library Joins #GivingTuesdayNow with Appeal to “Stock the Stacks” with Books
The Camden Public Library is joining the global effort, #GivingTuesdayNow, on Tuesday, May 5, by asking for help from the community to “Stock the Stacks.” Donations collected during this one-day fundraiser will go directly to secure new books. Some donors even have the opportunity to place a name of their choosing on a Camden Public Library bookplate.
Any amount will help. A donation of $10 can buy one children’s book; $25 will buy one hardcover book; and $75 buys one e-book, including the fees required for multiple readers to access that e-book. Donations given during this Stock the Stacks one-day fundraiser will directly enable the library to provide current, vibrant, and relevant materials for all ages, right here in our local community, in times of closure and when the doors open again.
Donors who give $25 or more can place a name on a bookplate in honor of a friend, loved one – even a beloved cat, dog, or goldfish. Donations can be made from the comfort of home with a computer or mobile phone by visiting librarycamden.org/stockthestacks. Gifts can also be sent by check, made out to the “Camden Public Library Fund,” to the library, ATTN: Stock the Stacks, 55 Main Street, Camden, ME 04843.
“The Stock the Stacks fund is an essential part of the library’s operating budget, and it has been significantly impacted by COVID-19. Because of necessary restrictions on public gatherings, the library has lost access to many of the ways it generates funds,” Camden Public Library Executive Director Nikki Maounis said. “This one-day fundraiser for Stock the Stacks is part of an urgent effort to raise more than $50,000 by June 30 to cover basic operating expenses. We appreciate everyone’s help.”
#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity taking place on May 5, 2020 – in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020, #GivingTuesday – as a response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. When you participate in #GivingTuesdayNow, you join an effort to generate generosity, citizen engagement, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world and right here in Camden, Maine.
