Empty Place at the Table is a memorial display honoring members of our community who have died due to domestic violence. New Hope for Women will present the daylong display in the Camden Public Library on Tuesday, October 18. Four women and one infant are remembered at the table with items donated by their families, along with an additional place setting to honor all victims of domestic homicide. The donated items either belonged to the victims or were selected by family members to reflect and celebrate their personalities, passions and dreams. The intent of the exhibit is to point out that those whose lives were taken in such a tragic and senseless way were more than statistics to be tallied at the end of the year. They were parents, children, neighbors, friends and valued members of the community. Their deaths have left us with many empty places at the table. Empty Place at the Table is displayed in quiet, contemplative settings during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
