Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI) is a Maine-based non-profit organization that focuses on wildlife conservation. As part of a conservation restoration effort in response to an oil spill occurring in southern New England in 2004, that killed hundreds of loons, BRI and project partners have embarked on a multi-year project to restore Common Loons to areas of southern New England, where loons have been removed from the landscape for more than 100 years. In partnership with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, BRI wildlife biologists have developed a technique to safely transport and rear Common Loons chicks for release in areas of southern New England. The project has already achieved exciting milestone moments and the future for successful loon restoration is bright.

Coastal Mountains Land Trust has worked since 1986 to permanently conserve land to benefit the natural and human communities of the western Penobscot Bay. The Land Trust manages over 12,000 acres and maintainsover 50 miles of permanent trails for public access.

The Coastal Mountains Nature Program is a monthly education series hosted by Coastal Mountains Land Trust. Walks and talks explore the natural history of Midcoast Maine, helping educate the public about environment issues and increase opportunities for residents to explore the outdoors. This program will be online until it is safe to gather.
