Coastal Mountains Land Trust Series: Offshore Wind Energy and Wildlife—What’s happening along the East Coast and in Maine

Thursday, February 11, 2021 @ 6:00 pm 7:00 pm

The Camden Public Library and the Coastal Mountains Land Trust welcome Dr. Wing Goodale for a free online presentation via Zoom. Goodale will provide an overview of the offshore wind energy projects on the East Coast of the US; provide an update on activities in Maine; discuss how wildlife (birds and bats in particular) are expected to respond to offshore wind turbines; and discuss what we know about bird movement in the Gulf of Maine. Email jpierce@librarycamden.org to register and request a link to attend.

Goodale is the Senior Science Director at Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI), and adjunct research faculty at the University of Maine. Goodale has a BA in biology from Colorado College, an MPhil in human ecology from College of the Atlantic, and a Ph.D. in environmental conservation from UMass Amherst. Goodale was a National Science Foundation IGERT fellow in the UMass Offshore Wind Energy Program and is a Switzer Environmental Fellow. Goodale’s research is focused on the interaction of wildlife with offshore wind energy. Goodale has in-depth knowledge of the cumulative effects, offshore wind farm wildlife literature, and environmental assessments.
