Celebrate Children’s Library Week May 7th-10th

Children’s Book Week

May 7th-10th Special Events all week!   Crafts available all day, every day.

May 7th -  Mystery Character day… come see who visits the library. A different book character will be here  all week.  Get your face painted with something special.  Ask Miss Amy.

May 8th -  6:00 Come join us for a Strega Nona spaghetti supper, potluck.  I will provide the  pasta and if your name is A-N (bring a salad ) if your name is O-Z (bring a dessert)  We’ll enjoy dinner and a short Strega Nona movie.  This is a great family night out!

May 9th  Join Little Red Riding Hood for a scavenger hunt.  Come see if you can find things from the fairy tale in the library!

May 10th Raggedy Andy day!  Come make paper ragdolls.

-Put your name in the drawing for  a new book to take home.  Winners will be chosen daily!

-Look for displays of Maine children’s authors and illustrators, and  celebrate the talent in our own state.

We now have a search distinction available that will narrow your search in the Camden Catalogue to all picture books(Easy readers), beginning readers (first reader dot books), juvenile fiction and non-fiction and young adult fiction and non-fiction.

You asked… and we finally have the capability.   Look for it in the card catalog under Camden Public Library there is a drop down for Camden Children’s Collection.

 

MSBA book club May 29th 5:30-6:30

Maine Student Book Award Club!

Tuesday, May 29th from 5:30-6:30  Come see which book won the 2011 Award.  Be prepared to book talk and if you haven’t added your name to the new book chart, come in and do it.  All students who will be in 4th grade next year are welcome to come check out book club this month. Learn to book talk your favorites and hear what other 4th-8th graders have to say about the books they are reading from the MSBA list and off the list!  It’s a great opportunity to hear about great books from other kids!  Call to let us know you’re coming! 236-3440

 

Creative Art Afternoon: May 9th 3:30

Dogs in the Library! Enjoy a “Pawsitive Experience” Continues…

Yes, dogs in the library…who are just waiting to be read to.  This program helps readers gain confidence while reading aloud to very attentive listeners.  Taser is a certified therapy dog and has his handler with him at all times.  “Children who once struggled to read are now improving their skills and their confidence. They develop a healthy appreciation for dogs and learn how to interact in a positive & supportive situation.”  Call Miss Amy at Camden Public Library, 207-236-3440, to sign up.  Friday afternoons

LEGO LOVERS CLUB…will meet again May 30th at 3:15.

This month bring a friend and come with your LEGOS to build and create!  Come catch the creative chaos…it’s contagious!!!  If you forget your LEGOS or don’t have any, don’t worry the library has LEGOS to share for the afternoon!  Hope to see you all on May 30th from 3:15-4:30.

 

Booktime for Babies:Developing Great Minds

For children birth to age 2, every Wednesday morning at 10:00am in the Jean Picker Room.  Join Miss Amy for songs, finger plays, read-alouds and more!   A great opportunity for babies to interact with other babies of different ages and for caregivers to have some big people time!  Always a fun morning with the kids! Older siblings are always welcome.  No story time on Wednesday, May 23rd…Miss Amy is away.

Babbling Books- Mondays at 10am

An informal read-aloud program. Join me in the children’s room Monday mornings at 10:00 for pre-school and toddler stories.

No Story Hour on Monday the 28th…the library will be closed in honor of Memorial Day!

 

Beginning Reader book club.

Book club will meet Monday, May 7th at 4:00  We’ll share another of the new Chickadee books.  Check one out… you can see them hanging in the J-room.

 

Regular Story Hour,Thursdays for 4 & 5 yrs. and Fridays for 2 & 3 yrs.

Join Miss Amy Thursdays at 10:00 for four and five-year-olds, and on Fridays at 10:00 for two and three-year-olds.  Come join the magic and wonder of reading, through books, rhymes, songs, flannel board stories, finger plays, puppets, dramatic play and thematic crafts.
