Earth Day Choral Concert

Sunday, April 22, 2018 @ 2:00 pm

Camden’s Quasimodal Chorus will return to the Camden Public Library for an Earth Day performance on Sunday afternoon, April 22, at 2:00 pm, in the Reading Room. The Quasimodal Chorus will be joined in the performance by The January Men and Then Some and The Mill Street Irregulars. The music will include old favorites and a number of new pieces, several of which have not been heard in performance ever before.
The various choruses are made up of overlapping membership. Singers come from all over the midcoast, from Winterport to Waldoboro. The Quasimodal Chorus first preformed a spring concert at the Library over twenty years ago, and at least eleven of the singers who performed in 1997 will be singing in the concert in 2018! “We always enjoy and look forward to our Spring concert at the Library,” said Carney Doucette of the Quasimodal Chorus. “The Reading Room is such a gorgeous space for a gathering of voices, and we think it’s exceptionally fine that we can sing together on Earth Day. We hope you can join us!”
“We have some new music to offer at the concert,” added Susan Shaw, who sings also with the Mill Street Irregulars, “and we have discovered some unusual treasures we are eager to share with you.”
The January Men and Then Some are beginning their 24th year of singing together. In 1996 Gordon Bok gathered a men’s chorus, the January Men, to sing traditional and working songs of various cultures; in need of more tenors, the group soon expanded to include two women and became the January Men and Then Some. Over the years there have been thirty January Men, including four Then-Somes. When not singing, they can be found working as building contractor, handyman, harp teacher, jazz pianist, spinnery owner, therapist, composer, gardener, teacher, painter, or woodcarver. Two charter members from the 1996 group still sing with them today.
There will be a suggested donation of $10 admission at the door.
