An event every day that begins at 9:00am, repeating until November 19, 2017
Thanksgiving Book Sale at Camden Public Library
The Camden Public Library is offering a Thanksgiving Book Sale in the new Book Shed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 17, 18, and 19 from 9:00 to 4:00 each day. The book sales are a significant part of the library’s annual fundraising for books and programs; in fact, the library raises over half of its operating expenses from book sales, donations, grants, and other such income!
The books cover an enormous range of topics. “While we always have wonderful selections in our biography, history, and gardening categories, we have been benefited by donations of a number of great collections of popular fiction in recent weeks,” said Nikki Maounis, library director. “Anyone who loves the books of Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, Robin Cook, Michael Crichton, and authors of similar thrillers will have plenty to choose from! And we also have a fabulous array of Star Wars books in pristine condition, just in time to celebrate the upcoming release of the newest Star Wars movie.”
The Thanksgiving Book Sale will also include a two-week indoor sale of gift books, in the rotunda of the library between November 13 and November 27. The indoor sale will feature a fine selection of “highly curated” books! “And since we are close to the Christmas Season, we will have a special selection of Christmas Books as well,” says Susan Fitzgerald, book sale volunteer.
The library’s book sales are organized and run entirely by volunteers; in fact, the “new” Book Shed was rebuilt and insulated by volunteer efforts. The volunteers will be able, for the first time, to continue the work of collecting and sorting books throughout the winter, thanks to the renovation project organized by Jean White and shepherded by David Feldman. “The winterization project was a perfect example of what can be accomplished by dedicated volunteers, generous community support (especially from the Maine Community Foundation), and other community organizations like Habitat for Humanity,” commented Nikki Maounis.
The book sales are made possible by generous donations of books; the Camden Public Library is very grateful to receive donations of nice, well cared for books of any age and for any age (though please no books with mold or mildew) at the Book Shed any Tuesday between 9:00 and noon throughout the year. The Book Shed is adjacent to the Amphitheatre, in the “Meadow Parking Lot.” Call CPL for more information 207-236-3440.
The two-week sale begins at 4:00 pm on November 13 in the Rotunda, and the weekend sale begins at 9:00 am on Friday, November 17, in the Book Shed, and will have books for all ages and tastes. The tables will be restocked each evening to ensure that there’s a full selection to choose from no matter which day you shop. All are invited to come browse for those exceptional, readable, and collectible books!
