The Millay Society recognizes Camden Public Library friends and patrons who have pledged to support the future of the library with minimum donations of $1,000.00 per year. This group will take up the mission of ensuring a solid base of support for continual improvement of library collections, programs, and the grounds of our Harbor Park and Amphitheatre.

The Millay Society is named in honor of Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892-1950). Millay, raised in Camden, was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in poetry. Her life and her poetry are celebrated examples of freedom and individualism. Millay was committed to intellectual pursuits and the liberation of ideas - ideals kept alive at the Camden Public Library.

The Camden Public Library is pleased to include in the Millay Society individuals who provide support as follows:

Founder $1,000 - $2,499
  • 1. Name on the Millay Society board in the hall of the Library
  • 2. Summer Reception
  • 3. Name printed in Library newsletter
  • 4. Free Library Card
Literary Fellow $2,500 - $4,999 All of the above, plus a signed copy of Richard Russo's new book, Bridge of Sighs.
Renascence Associate $5,000 - $9,999 All of the above, plus four books placed in the Library collection dedicated to an individual specified by the donor.
Poet Laureate $10,000 - $24,999 All of the above, plus one of the following: a print of the "Frederick Billings" painting, a bird's eye view of the Library and Amphitheatre, a print of the William R. Beebe painting of the Library.
Chairman's Circle $25,000 and above All of the above, plus four free tickets to all ticketed Library events.

Members the Millay Society receive a monthly newsletter and special mailings about library events. In addition, Millay Society members are invited to an annual event to celebrate the accomplishments of the Camden Public Library and plan for its continued growth and community responsiveness.

Most importantly, Millay Society members will have the benefit of knowing that they supporting the Camden Public Library in a fashion that will ensure its continued place as the cultural and intellectual center of mid-coast Maine.

Donations received after August 15, 2008, will be given membership for the year of 2009.
